Jude
Court is a purpose built unit with six bedsits for vulnerable young
adults. It is located near the centre of Shaftesbury and offers
low support housing. Staff cover is available throughout the week
on a minimal basis, there are two part-time staff and one relief
member of staff who covers while the others are on holiday etc.
The young people living at Jude Court have to be highly motivated
in looking for work or college places if they don't already have
either. At present, the majority of the young people are working
and are on training schemes, this is the positive ethos that Jude
Court wishes to keep. It is emphasised to the young people that
Jude Court is their home, a place where positive plans are made
for their future, in partnership with them.
When they move in, the young residents find that their bedsits
are fully equipped from wooden spoons to fridges and kettles! There
is also a communal laundry and sitting room, where a television
and hi-fi system have been provided. On the whole, they are responding
well to the input Signpost has made.
Regular house meetingsare held and this is a good and effective
way for everyone to have their say in a calm and constructive manner.
