Sally
Knight has recently joined Signpost Care Partnerships as an Independent
Living Support Worker. The post has been funded through the Housing
Corporation, the William Williams Charity and Blandford Forum Town
Council.
The aim of the post is to support 16-25 year olds with general
life skills, which include maintaining their tenancies and teaching
them to live independently. Sally's original training was with young
people working on GNVQ's and life skills. More recently she worked
for Stepping Stones, part of the Community Employment Services,
on a European Social Fund (ESF) project providing people with disabilities
with the support and training to move into employment.
Sally says," I have seen how easy it is for young people to fall
very quickly into rent arrears and financial problems. My aim is
to prevent this from happening by providing the necessary support
and guidance to young people."
Support of this kind is particularly important during the initial
stages of setting up a tenancy. Young people find it difficult to
deal with problems arising from tenancies and often need an advocate
to liaise with local authorities, housing associations, government
agencies, etc.
Sally's hobbies include walking, gardening, cooking and a good
glass of wine!
