A new Registered Nursing Home at Chickerell is about to welcome residents through its doors.

The home, called Fairfield House, will be offering specialist care to people with severe and enduring mental illness. Many of the residents are transferring from an existing home in Weymouth.

Mary Gross, Home Manager and a resident in the presence of David Wells, Chairman of Signpost Care Partnerships and Ian Moss, Chairman of Dorset Residential Homes (DRH) will officially open the home on Monday 28 January 2002 at 12:15pm. There will then be an opportunity to look around the building. The Home has 16 bedrooms and boasts 2 lounges with views across the gardens, a dedicated hairdressing salon, and bathrooms with additional mobility aids and assisted bathing facilities. Freshly prepared meals are served in the attractive dining room. The bedrooms are comfortably appointed and arranged over the ground and first floors. All rooms are for single occupancy, with the majority offering en suite facilities. A number of rooms offer additional facilities such as hoists. A passenger lift serves the rooms on the first floor.

Fairfield House is leased to, and managed by, DRH based in Dorchester. The DRH provides specialist nursing care, residential care and support to people with mental illness and learning disabilities. The building is owned by Signpost Care Partnerships, which is part of the Signpost Housing Group, based in Blandford Forum, Dorset. Signpost Care Partnerships have spent around £800,000 on acquiring, refurbishing and extending the building. The contractors were R B Snooks of Sturminster Newton, Dorset and the Quantity Surveyors were Peter Robb Associates of Blandford Forum, Dorset.

DRH will be providing care and support to older residents who:
Require 24 hour nursing care
*Have experienced periods of sustained and serious mental illness
*Lack the ability to lead an independent life in the wider community due to significant impairment by their illness or by the consequences of illness
*May have care needs complicated by physical ill health

A well-established team of qualified nurses and nursing assistants, many of whom are trained to NVQ standard, will ensure that a high level of care and support is given to residents.

Ends: for further information please contact Jill Robbins at DRH on 01305 267483 (ext 211) or Tina Partridge, Marketing Manager at Signpost on 01258 484884.

Note to Editors:
Reporters and photographers are very welcome to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by a buffet lunch.
